Custom Metal Signs from Stout Industries

History/About

Before there were cars and highways, there were billboards.  The Stout Sign Company, founded in 1886, built its legacy manufacturing metal billboards for companies like Pepsi-Cola, Burma Shave and Michelin Tire.  Before the invention of the first Model T and paved highways, Stout Signs began forging its reputation as the industry’s pre-eminent leader in outdoor signage.

The Stout Sign Company was founded by the Stout family in what was then the outskirts of downtown St. Louis.  Over the years, the company’s ownership changed many times, but its core product line remained quite true to its origins – outdoor metal signage.  In 1946, Stout Signs moved to its present location on seven acres in North St. Louis, at the time believed to be the largest mass producer of signs in the USA.

Today, thanks to the evolution of its product line and the continued relationships of many life-long customers, Stout remains an industry leader.  True to its roots, Stout still leads the industry in metal POS signage – both indoor and outdoor.  But as Stout’s customers have grown, so have their needs.  In early 2012, with the merger of a similar company in Denver, Colorado, Stout announced the dawn of a new era in signage.  It now has capability to manufacture all forms of illuminated signage.  By strengthening our product management capability, Stout has truly become a turnkey source for all of your imaging needs.
